What is the Shop Technology Timeline? It is a guide that I built for automotive repair shops to follow to become more technologically advanced in their operations. A more efficient and productive shop leads to higher profits and a better customer experience, which we all desire. I have had the pleasure of visiting many shops and talking with many automotive repair shop owners, and one thing I have discovered is hesitance to move towards using more technology in their operations. Don’t get me wrong, there are some that dive right in; yet, I’ve found that a majority do not. I think a lot of that has to do with a lack of familiarity and understanding. I can relate. When I was first learning to use Quickbooks and understanding a P&L and balance sheet, I had those same reservations. But, over time, I dove in and learned enough to be dangerous with accounting basics. I’m no accountant; I’m a technologist, which is why I created this chart to help someone who doesn’t have 25+ years of slinging code to navigate the waters of technology in an auto repair shop.
