Automating the Whiteboard
Shops have solved the need to monitor their workflow with whiteboards. Although functional, whiteboards have their limitations. The whiteboard stays in one spot and is not remotely accessible. They can be easily erased, and then there’s the handwriting which, at times, requires an interpreter. These drawbacks coupled with my wanting to reach outside of my shop and involve and engage customers throughout the repair process led me to put my software engineering background to use and create Autoflow, which has automated the traditional and very manual whiteboard.
Autoflow, a communication and visual workflow solution for the auto repair industry, serves as a digital whiteboard that is simple to implement and operate. It’s remotely accessible, whether benefiting the technicians scattered throughout the shop or the shop owner who’s away and needs to view the vehicle inventory status. Then, there’s the bonus, a BIG one, I might add, of having the ability to keep customers informed of what’s going on with their vehicles every step of the way.
I took things a step further at my shop by displaying Autoflow‘s read-only view, which is shown both in our lobby and out in the shop, ensuring all shop personnel are informed and on the same page.
